My Vision

I aim to maintain and increase academic excellence, have a responsible and transparent budget, and unify all stakeholders to achive the ultimate goal of student success.

In my opinion, academic excellence means not just preserving honors and AP classes at the high school, but improving honor classes, and offering more choices. It means giving students of all ages the ability to participate in challenging extracurricular activities that can ignite long-term passions and allow them to thrive outside of the classroom. It means making sure that there is strong instruction in the basics during the early years: although Sharon’s MCAS scores are well above the state averages, last year that still meant that only 64% of 3rd and 8th grade students met or exceeded expectations in ELA, and only 69% met or exceeded expectations in math. There is definitely room for growth, to help the one-third of SPS students who are not yet reaching those milestones. Furthermore, if we look at the data in more detail, we can see that only 50% of Black students took at least one advanced course in 11th or 12th grade in 2022-23, compared to 75% of White students, and 91% of Asian students. Academic excellence means ensuring that all students have access to the resources they need to help them reach their highest potential academically.

I believe that a responsible and transparent budget is one which not only covers expenses for the current school year, but which looks to the future, anticipating expenses such as the need to offer competitive salaries that allow us to attract and retain the best teachers. The current budget deficit is due to a lack of such forward-looking planning in previous years, since the district now finds itself financially unprepared to meet the cost of its newly-negotiated contract with the teacher’s union. As a result, the school administration has started to cut some vital positions and programs that will affect our children.

In order to achieve transparency, the budget should be available for review by December every year. This will allow enough time to do careful analysis and ask for any necessary clarifications.

Finally, I believe all stakeholders - students, teachers, school administrators, and the community - in Sharon have to be united. So, we can all work towards achieving the main objective of achieving student success.

This is why my campaign slogan is “Together for Sharon Schools”. Sharon Public Schools should foster the environment of unity which we hope to see throughout our whole town. Our kids are our future! And we are all truly united in wanting the very best for our precious children. Every student in Sharon Public Schools should feel welcome, included, and valued, because of their unique personalities, abilities and cultures.
